This research aims to examine the integration of local wisdom from North Maluku in Indonesian language learning at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Ternate. Local wisdom such as Islamic values in the culture of the Ternate-Tidore Sultanate, oral traditions, and local customs are used as a contextual approach to enhance students' understanding and interest in the subject matter. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method with techniques such as observation, interviews, and Focus Group Discussion (FGD). The researcher also directly took on the role of an Indonesian language teacher who implemented the integration in the learning process. The research results show that the local wisdom-based approach makes it easier for students to understand the material and feel emotionally connected to the Islamic history being taught. Historical narratives relevant to the students' cultural identity enhance their enthusiasm and participation in class. FGD with teachers and local leaders revealed that this method supports the natural internalization of Islamic values. However, the limited availability of locally-based teaching materials poses a challenge that needs to be addressed through collaboration between educators and the community. This research recommends the development of a thematic curriculum based on local culture to strengthen meaningful Indonesian language learning.
