Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using audio-visual media in enhancing the understanding of science concepts among fourth-grade students at MIN 4 Tidore. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, this research involved 30 fourth-grade students and a science teacher. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, documentation, and concept understanding tests. The results show that the use of audio-visual media significantly improved students' understanding of science concepts, with an increase in average test scores from 65.3 to 82.7. Students demonstrated higher enthusiasm and active participation in learning. Factors influencing effectiveness include media quality, teacher skills, active student involvement, and frequency and duration of use. Challenges in implementation include infrastructure limitations and preparation time. This study concludes that audio-visual media is an effective tool for enhancing science concept understanding, with important implications for the development of learning strategies and curriculum in elementary schools.
