Abstract

One of the basic skills that students must master is listening skills. Listening, as part of communication, is the process of receiving, understanding, and interpreting messages conveyed orally. This research uses a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design. The research subjects were class VIII students at MTsN 2 Tidore Islands who were divided into two groups: an experimental group that used audio-visual media and a control group that used conventional learning methods. The experimental group that was given treatment in the form of learning using audio-visual media achieved greater improvement in listening skills compared to the control group that was taught using conventional methods. This is proven by the average posttest score for the experimental group which is much higher (80.1) compared to the average posttest score for the control group (70.3).
