OBSERVATION OF ENGLISH LEARNING IN GRADE 1 ELEMENTARY SCHOOL REGARDING GREETING MATERIAL

Abstract

Language is a human communication system consisting of organized written or vocal expressions, formed by units such as words, groups of words, sentences and clauses. Language has various definitions, one of which is as a structured human communication system. From the perspective of Functional Systemic Linguistics, language is social semiotics that functions in cultural situations and contexts, both orally and in writing. English is recognized as an important universal language in the era of globalization, and teaching English in Indonesia begins early. Education, in a general sense, is a conscious and planned effort to develop individual potential in various aspects of life. Students, as subjects and objects of education, have basic potential that needs to be developed. This research uses a literature study method carried out by collecting various reference sources. In this research, the author compiled an English teaching module for grade 1 elementary school, with a focus on greeting material. The module is designed to improve students' speaking skills. The aim of this research is to determine the results of implementing English teaching modules in elementary schools. Results and discussion include learning planning, learning implementation, and learning closure. Planning involves consulting with teachers to design teaching modules. The implementation of learning involves opening activities, core activities using image media, and closing activities to evaluate the achievement of learning objectives.
