The object of the research is the learning process in 3 elementary schools in Banda Aceh. The problem explored is: How do we, as researchers and teachers, deal with some of the problems in national listening research and adapt listening research to the Acehnese cultural context. The research results show that the culture of listening skills is mainly influenced by the teacher's ability in public speaking and the types of distractions that arise from the school environment. Apart from that, this research also offers an alternative theoretical framework for listening in elementary schools. The main conclusion is that with alternative educational approaches and theoretical frameworks it is possible to teach with a broadening and encompassing perspective in listening research and listening education.
