Abstract

Epistemology and philosophy have a connection that can be illustrated through a tree that has branches. The philosophy tree has branches in the form of subdisciplines: philosophy of science, ethics, aesthetics, anthropology philosophy, and metaphysics. The philosophy of science branch ultimately includes branches and subdisciplines, especially logic, ontology, epistemology, and axiology. The three are interrelated, between epistemology with ontology and axiology. Epistemology itself is called the theory of knowledge. Epistemology is a branch of philosophy that discusses the origin, nature, characteristics and types of science. Epistemology is also a discussion of the nature of science, its foundation, scope, origin, and how to report the truth. The theory of knowledge discusses in depth all that is seen in the effort to gain knowledge. Science is what is obtained through a certain process called the scientific method. This method is what distinguishes between science and other results of thought that do not use scientific methods. This research uses qualitative research with the type of Library Research. With documentation data collection techniques, namely extracting heirloom materials that are cohesive with the intended object of discussion. While the data analysis used uses descriptive analysis, it can produce the findings that an exploration of the concept of epistemology in Islamic and Western views.
