Abstract

This research evaluates the effectiveness of formative assessment in learning Islamic Religious Education (PAI) at SMP Negeri 1 Karangmalang. In the context of 21st century learning, formative assessment is considered relevant because it supports the development of critical skills, creativity, communication and collaboration. This article highlights the challenges in measuring student learning processes and outcomes, especially in the context of PAI learning. The proposed innovative learning and assessment model aims to provide valid results while accommodating student diversity. The research method used is qualitative with a descriptive approach, focusing on the use of formative tests in assessing the success of PAI learning at SMP Negeri 1 Karangmalang. The research results show that formative assessment provides ongoing constructive feedback, helps teachers monitor student progress, and design appropriate improvement strategies. In the PAI context, formative assessment plays a role not only as an evaluation tool, but also as a dynamic learning instrument that supports students' understanding of religious concepts. Research findings confirm the effectiveness of formative assessment in improving the quality of PAI learning and achieving educational goals more effectively. Therefore, this article encourages further integration of formative assessment in the PAI curriculum to support students' holistic development in line with the demands of the 21st century.
